Ways to Give: Earthquakes in Turkey & Syria

Dear clients,

A few weeks ago in my 2022 year-end letter, I had the pleasure of informing you all that via our investments for you, you participated in the world’s top stock market last year, Turkey’s.  Today, we all know the terrible humanitarian tragedy that has befallen that country and its neighbor Syria.

New Capital is lucky to have a wonderful client who is a citizen and resident of Turkey and a retired international bank executive.  I have asked her to provide me with the name of organizations that she trusts and knows to be doing excellent relief work in the earthquake areas.  Her recommendations are:

Turkish Philanthropy Fund

TPF is the leading U.S. community foundation for high-impact social investments dedicated to Turkish and Turkish-American communities. When you donate to TPF’s Türkiye Earthquake Relief Fund, 100% of your donation will be used to:

  • Provide food and emergency medical supplies to people and animals

  • Support temporary relief and emergency supplies for displaced families

  • Provide support to front-line workers, like volunteers of our partner organizations

  • Meet other needs that emerge

The Foundation of Anatolian People and Peace Platform

AHBAP aims to provide aid to people in need, strengthen the awareness of cooperation in society and serve the building of good people and a good society.

Since the earthquakes, AHBAP volunteers have taken part in search and rescue efforts and provided water, tents, generators, and mobile trucks for personal hygiene needs to victims in earthquake-affected regions, also organizing and announcing institutions and businesses that opened their doors to people who had to leave their homes after the earthquake. All donations will help provide much-needed aid, shelter, food, and medical supplies to those affected by the earthquake.

Please note: This organization is not a 501(c)(3), and therefore, you will not get a tax deduction for any contributions and you are not able to make these contributions from your Fidelity Charitable Donor Advised Fund.

Other Organizations

Fidelity Charitable has provided a list of organizations that are offering relief for people affected by the earthquakes. These organizations are highlighted because they have knowledge of the region, the ability to manage a large influx of donations, and an established record in disaster relief services.

I encourage all New Capital clients to give generously to help those affected by the earthquakes. If we can assist with charitable grants from your Fidelity Charitable donor-advised fund, please email cmoss@newcapitalmgmt.com.
