Life Changes

Leonard Golub Financial Advisor

A few days ago, I put a $2000 downpayment for a Mantis camper trailer, made by Taxa Outdoors, a Houston company.  This is not the first time I have sent money to Taxa.  The other times have been as a purchaser of company shares (Taxa is private, and I have known the founder, Garrett Finney, a former NASA space habitat engineer, for several years).  Whereas my original interest was as an investor, my life has changed, and now as a customer I’ll use Taxa’s innovative products to spend time with my wife and kids, friends, and on the land I manage as a nature preserve.

New Capital Management is dedicated to understanding not only our clients’ life goals, but also changes to our clients’ life goals.  Our financial planning process manages the most detailed data possible about your finances, goals, time frames, and priorities.  Accordingly, we are in a position to respond quickly and adroitly to your changes.

Our lives change every second, and yet certain periods make it feel like life is changing more and faster.  The current global pandemic is the epitome of such a period.  And as a result, New Capital is busier than it has ever been helping clients assess how their lives are changing, and what actions, if any, should be taken in response.

Here are some examples:

  • One client has started a weekly online meeting group for his construction industry peers to develop and share best operating practices.  He reports this activity as providing great personal satisfaction from his leadership.

  • A client has decided to retire from Boeing aerospace and move to Costa Rica and the home they just purchased.  We are delighted that the client credits New Capital with being instrumental in helping make this happen through our planning process.

  • A client has decided to make a concerted effort to adjust their budgets and reduce some of their discretionary spending to better align their finances with their future.

  •  A client has decided to this year quadruple the charitable funds given by her family foundation in response to the pandemic and to assist organizations working in Harris County to ameliorate it.

  • A client has asked New Capital to move their investments into our sustainable ESG funds in order to respond to the pandemic and align the portfolio with emerging efforts to solve the world’s urgent problems.

  • A new client has come aboard with New Capital to ensure that a surviving spouse will have an able and trusted advisor to help them in the event that the other was to succumb to the virus.

In this period, people are making decisions about how to live, where to live, with whom to live.  New Capital is extraordinarily privileged to be an integral part of helping our clients make these vital decisions, and moreover, make the right decisions

Are there things - no matter how large or small - that can be force multipliers in your own life?  We are here with you to explore them and your journey.  We are all taking our own journeys (some of us in a new Taxa Mantis - I’ll let you know how it goes in a couple of months).

Thank you for your trust, and may you and your loved ones stay safe and healthy as summer approaches.
